A new $5.8 million investment embeds PhD graduates within healthcare and public health organizations for greater impact
A new $5.8 million investment in training modernization from 9 CIHR Institutes and Branches, the Fonds de recherche du Québec –Santé (FRQS), the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation, Mitacs and partnerships with 36 health system organizations across the country and 17 universities will help prepare a cohort of the next generation of health services research leaders for stronger career readiness and greater health system impact.
The new Training Modernization Start-Up Grants and Health System Impact Fellowship awards will support 46 Health System Impact Fellows to undertake experiential learning opportunities in healthcare organizations where they will bring new ideas and innovative approaches to tackle complex challenges these organizations are facing.
Improving transitions in care with e-technology, improving home and community-based care, improving the delivery of mental health care within primary healthcare, and harnessing policy interventions to prevent obesity are a few examples of the high-priority challenges fellows will address. The Institut national d'excellence en santé et en services sociaux, Canada Health Infoway, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ontario Long-term Care Association, Alberta Health Services, the Nova Scotia Heath Authority, Canadian Nurses Association, Saint John Human Development Council, and Saint Elizabeth Healthcare are a few examples of the organizations that will be hosting and training fellows.
The successful fellows are a highly accomplished and impressive group of individuals dedicated to applying their PhD skills and knowledge to real-world health and health system improvement. Congratulations to the Start-Up Grant and Health System Impact Fellowship recipients. With IPPH's support, a significant proportion of the Health System Impact Fellows will be based within public health agencies across local, provincial and federal governments.
