Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Process Evaluation 

Applicants are invited to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship with the Translating Research in Elder Care (TREC) research program situated at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. TREC is a large, multi-disciplinary group Canadian and international researchers, clinicians, citizen representatives, and stakeholders who conduct research in the LTC sector focusing on quality of care, quality of life and end of life and quality of work life. It is an integrated knowledge translation program with a strong emphasis on implementation science. 

Improving Nursing Home Care through Feedback on PerfoRMance Data (INFORM) is a keystone TREC initiative that works to support care managers to make positive change on their units. Building on the findings of the successful pragmatic randomized controlled INFORM trial, TREC has partnered with Michael Smith Health Research BC (MSHR BC) to support wider scale implementation of INFORM.

Working under the direction of Dr Carole Estabrooks (TREC Scientific Director) the successful applicant will lead a process evaluation of this implementation initiative. This comprehensive process evaluation will examine, among other things, how facilitators support implementation of INFORM, the fidelity with which they do so, and the barriers, facilitators and contextual factors that influence implementation. The incumbent will have the opportunity to develop the process evaluation protocol in conjunction with the senior TREC team, lead and undertake data collection and analyses, participate writing scientific papers, and produce end-of-grant knowledge translation reports for the funder. 

TREC invites applications from researchers who have earned a PhD or PhD-equivalent in a Health or Social Sciences discipline with strong expertise in qualitative analysis and basic quantitative skills. Of particular interest are applicants with experience and demonstrated success in process evaluation and experience in long term care settings. 

This full-time position is available for a period of one year with a possible one-year renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and continued funding. The incumbent will receive an annual salary dependent on qualifications and experience, with some extended health benefits, university office space, use of appropriate computational services, and full access to university libraries.

This position will be physically located in the College of Health Sciences (Faculty of Nursing), University of Alberta. Additional collaborative opportunities may be available through the TREC scientific and stakeholder groups situated in provincial governments, regional health authorities, knowledge users, and citizen groups. The candidate will be expected to attend relevant team meetings and scientific conferences.

Depending on COVID-19 conditions, some travel will be required (i.e., to BC), some site visits may be necessary.

This position is immediately and must be operational by March 1, 2022.
