CFN launches competition for 2017 Fellowship cohort See CFN Website for full details.
Canadian Frailty Network recently received a commitment of $23.9 million in renewal funding from the Government of Canada’s Networks of Centres of Excellence program for a second five-year term (2017-2022), and is continuing with the work it began in since its inception in 2012. In its first term, CFN supported 88 research projects at 45 Canadian post-secondary institutions and teaching hospitals, and the CFN community has grown to over 3,500, including 400 researchers across Canada.
CFN also provided training opportunities to over 550 students, recent graduates and other highly qualified people in its first term. A key aspect of its mandate is to develop the next generation of scientists, clinicians and health and social service professionals capable of guiding the development and implementation of new tools, technologies and interventions that lead to improved care for older Canadians living with frailty. Today, CFN is pleased to announce a call for applications for its fifth cohort of Interdisciplinary Fellows. CFN’s Interdisciplinary Fellowship Program supports trainee academic work and furthers their knowledge of how to engage others in frailty and late life issues, and to work with interdisciplinary teams. The Program goes beyond traditional academic and clinical training opportunities by offering enriched experiential learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.
CFN will contribute a maximum of 50% of Fellowship funding and applicants must confirm within their application a partner that has agreed to provide at least matching funds in cash. All funds must be paid as Fellow stipends only. CFN funding levels are: $12,500 for Master’s level students; $17,500 for PhD level students, and $25,000 for postdocs or working professionals, to be matched by at least equal amounts by the Fellow's partners. The number of Fellowships awarded will be determined by corporate partner support, the quality of the applications and the number of applicants received among funding levels.
Eligibility Criteria and ApplicationThe competition is open to Master's and PhD students, postdocs, and working professionals. Candidates from any discipline are encouraged to apply, so long as their proposed activities align with the strategic priorities of CFN related to improving care for older Canadians living with frailty. This program is open only to Canadian citizens and individuals having Canadian permanent residency status. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate personal and professional interest in late life issues related to frailty; for example, pursuit of late-life courses or specialization, or related work, community service or leadership experience. For full details on the competition and the application process, visit the CFN website.
