Please join us for the Knowledge Translation Canada National Seminar Series session on Thursday, February 9th from 12:00-13:00 ET, with Dr. Robin Urquhart
Dr. Urquhart is an Assistant Professor and Knowledge Translation Scientist in the Department of Surgery, Dalhousie University, with cross appointments in Community Health and Epidemiology and Medical Education. She is also a Senior Scientist at the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute and Affiliate Scientist at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. Dr. Urquhart’s research expertise lies in health services research and implementation science, related to cancer and palliative care. She has built an active research program investigating how new tools, technologies, and practices move into cancer care practice and policy. Dr. Urquhart also holds a graduate degree in Exercise Sciences, and bachelor degrees in Kinesiology and Journalism.
Title: Uncovering the role of middle managers in the implementation of innovations in cancer care
Learning Objectives:- Understand the substantive role middle managers play in implementation processes
- Identify factors influencing their commitment to innovation implementation
- Consider potential strategies to optimize their role in innovation implementation

2. KT Canada Summer Institute |

Applications are now open for the KT Canada Summer Institute.
We are pleased to announce the Knowledge Translation (KT) Canada Summer Institute to be held in Toronto from June 26-28, 2017. The purpose of this Summer Institute is to provide participants with the opportunity to increase their understanding of knowledge translation research as well as opportunities and challenges in this field. The Summer Institute will provide participants with the chance to network with colleagues including national and international KT experts. The theme of the 2017 Institute is: “Patient oriented research” The Summer Institute is aimed at graduate students, post-doctoral and clinical fellows, and junior faculty and research staff who study issues relevant to KT and those who want to learn more about how to advance their research skills in this area. We encourage applications from a wide range of disciplines that span all of CIHR's research themes (biomedical, clinical, health services, and population health).

4. Planning for Implementation and Sustainability Workshop
Presented by: Knowledge Translation Program, St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Canada Workshop Overview Planning for implementation and sustainability is a 3-day workshop designed for professionals in any health-related discipline aiming to gain knowledge on how to apply the science of knowledge translation (KT) to real-world implementation projects. Through interactive lectures, activities, and coaching (optional), workshop participants will be able to do the following:- Identify and engage relevant stakeholders for implementation
- Assess the context and readiness for implementation
- Describe critical steps of an implementation plan
- Explain how to measure implementation quality and considerations related to fidelity and adaptation
- Assess barriers and facilitators to sustainability and identify sustainability strategies
- Plan for scale up and spread of an evidence-based program

6. Introduction to Publication Science: A Workshop on Scientific Writing, Publishing and Peer Review

Many physicians interested in research will go on to become authors, peer reviewers, and scientific editors of research journals. However, the literature indicates that they are likely to be unprepared for any of these roles.
The Introduction to Publication Science course adopts a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to the publication process by introducing participants to the principles of publication science (i.e., Journalology).

7. Post-Doctoral Fellowship Opportunity - Institute du savoir Montfort (ISM) and Hôpital Montfort
We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to conduct research on the health of the Francophone population in the minority context using routinely collected data. The successful applicant will be funded through the Institut du savoir Montfort (ISM) and Hôpital Montfort, and will be expected to use data housed at the Ottawa site of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) and at the Hôpital Montfort.
This opportunity will allow the fellow to develop a program of research in the area of the health of the Francophone population in the minority context, with a focus that can be tailored to interest and opportunities for funding that arise. Topics may include: measuring health determinants and status, health care system performance measurement, health care access, quality and safety, health care costs and efficiency, care transitions, language barriers, and data quality of the linguistic variables.
